Bad Words
By Rioghnach Robinson • ★★★★
Be careful what you put in writing. It’s fantastic advice in this digital age, where everything you put online becomes part of your digital footprint, and it’s one of the key themes of this book. If you couldn’t pick up on it, one of the characters issues that warning verbatim. It was pretty clear that the Chan Pan Support Group would end poorly, and it was one of a few instances where I saw the fallout coming.
This felt like an Emily Henry book in the sense that at times it was fiction and at times it was romance, but it never leaned too far one way or the other. It was smart and had real character development. In my opinion, most of that development came from Selina rather than Parker, which seems pretty standard.
My frustration with this book, which unfolded over time, was that Selina was mean and critical to Parker for no reason. It took far too long into the story for the background to unravel, so I didn’t totally buy the enemies to lovers plot at first. I also feel like the leads weren’t impacted with realistic implications. The story tied it all up with too nice of a bow, and the real world doesn’t work that way, with many folks being cancelled.
