Atmosphere
By Taylor Jenkins Reid • ★★★★
Atmosphere was one of Taylor Jenkins Reid’s releases after a few years away, and wow — she did not disappoint. This is one of my favorite books of hers, right up there with Daisy Jones & The Six (sorry, I’m an Evelyn Hugo hater — a story for another time). Atmosphere balances story-driven fiction and a yearning romance so well that you won’t want to put it down.
Atmosphere is one of the few popular fiction books that centers on space without leaning into typical sci-fi tropes. Instead, it shows the real work that goes into the space program — the skills required, the grueling preparation, and the emotional toll it takes on the people involved. There’s always an element of risk, and Reid puts you right in the middle of how that feels.
But the romance is what truly fuels the story. The chemistry between these two characters felt stronger than anything I’ve seen from Reid’s previous books. I was rooting for them from the start — for the relationship they both deserved. The ending had me audibly gasping before the tears started to flow.
