I love baseball. Truly, it’s the best sport and one of the most underappreciated. I’d been waiting weeks for this one to become available at the library, and when it finally did, it did not disappoint. This book was almost a grand slam — more like a walk-off, actually.
At its core this is a romance, but it has real substance to it. An empowered woman taking on a historically male-dominated sport is a compelling premise on its own, and the book delivers on it. The story never lets the romance overshadow what’s actually an interesting dynamic — it earns the spice rather than leading with it. The romance and spice levels end up being the cherry on top of what’s ultimately a genuine page-turner.
I read this in two days, right in the peak of summer heading into the All-Star break, which made it feel perfectly timed. If you’re a fan of Heated Rivalry or sports romance in general, this is absolutely one to pick up — though it’s worth noting this one is a heterosexual relationship, it carries that same energy and could easily be the new Heated Rivalry for a lot of readers.
