As the ber months roll in and the days get shorter and rainier, my reading sessions move from coffee shops to my own couch. It’s less about what I bring with me and more about the ambience I build around myself — the right mug, the right blanket, the right scent in the room. These are the things that make a cool, rainy day feel like the best possible excuse to stay in and read for hours.

The Mug: If I’m reading at home, it’s my ceramic mug — there’s something about a traditional mug that just feels like the whole point of a slow morning. But if I’m taking my coffee (and my book) to the car or somewhere without a table, my Owala wins. The lid actually fits a cup holder — no weird handle sticking out — and it keeps coffee warm way longer than a ceramic mug ever could.

The Blanket: We have half a dozen blankets in rotation, but this Ugg sherpa throw always wins. Sherpa on one side, and my cat agrees it’s the best side.

The Candle: Voluspa is my top pick — their seasonal scent range is unmatched, and the jars are genuinely too pretty to throw away (I keep every one). If citrus is more your thing, Capri is my go-to — plus the jar’s neutral enough to leave out on the counter year-round.

The Socks: Fuzzy socks are great until someone’s at the door. These are cozy enough for the couch but presentable enough to actually wear out.

The Reading Light: For when the sun sets at 5pm and you’re not ready to stop reading. This one bends to actually hit the page at the right angle (a lot of clip lights don’t), and it has more brightness settings than anything else I’ve tried.
